Explaining “Bhangra hands” to a girl at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Artist residency with LEAF in Streets and Schools. Here are kids from the after-school program at Woodridge, in the Emma district of Asheville.

Thank you for participating in the Emma Elementary Career Day. I have heard nothing but awesome reviews from all the kids and teachers you presented to on Friday. I though it was so cool that you showed the kids they could have a succesful career that’s fun and creative.” – Shirley Humphrey, Counselor and
Kate Page, Volunteer Coordinator

“I was very excited that Christine was interested in rounding out my unit, “An Overview of Multicultural Dance from the Slave Day to the Present Day”. She was understanding and flexible with the changes that needed to be made to the schedule. Students stopped me in the hall to ask if she was coming to their Music class again. Other students who had been previously quiet and mild mannered in class blossomed under Christine’s direction. Her enthusiasm was contagious. We ALL had a ball and learned a great deal about our nation and the history of Music.”Eleanor Vaughn, Music Teacher, Hall-Fletcher

An integral part of the experience of being a dance teacher is sharing different dance forms with children. Not only do they soak up movement, they also tend to be less inhibited than adults right off the bat. That’s because they know it just feels good to be in and move their bodies.
